Yesim Candan Born out of a Turkish family, Yesim Candan grew up in the city of Rotterdam. After high school she went to study at the Rotterdam International School of Economics, where she was surrounded by cultures from all over the world. During her later studies at the University of Nyenrode, Yesim’s drive to work with people and cultures was invigorated. After her first job at Reckitt Benckiser, she decided to bring her greatest passion into practice: to revitalize the perception in the Netherlands of people with a bicultural background. Yesim started to work at De Baak Management Centre VNO-CNW and introduced the term ‘bicultural’ into the Dutch language as an alternative for the Dutch word ‘allochtoon’ - which resembles the English noun ‘alien’. Simultaneously, she organized the national competition ‘Inspiration for Integration’ (IFI). Yesim appeared to be a pioneer, who is able to build bridges between corporate life, government and the talented, bicultural Dutch. The success of IFI was mainly due to her positive approach: to finally make clear why a second culture is a powerful and positive added value to corporate life. Yesim was able to charm Prime Minister Balkenende, Ahmed Aboutaleb, Princess Maxima and Neelie Kroes of her project through her power of persuasion and her passion for her work. YES I’M At the end of 2009, Yesim launched her own company YES I’M. The play of words by using her own name symbolises her message: be proud of who you are and what you can achieve. Yesim provides lectures and workshops on topics such as diversity, inspiration and networking. Her goal is to connect people and to inspire those she can reach. She believes strongly that everybody deserves a fair chance, which starts out with the access to basic education. Therefore, Yesim donates a fixed part of her revenue to children lacking financial means in Turkey to offer them a fair chance at schooling. |

Workshop “Inspiration & Networking”
Everybody has an internal flame. That flame is your drive to succeed in life and to inspire your work. Yet, sometimes, our burning desire to be innovative weakens, leaving us with a lack of inspiration. But what is inspiration? We believe that if you are inspired, you are truly motivated and have the ability to take on anything. This workshop teaches you to be your own inspiration. You will be able to answer some questions, such as: “What do I actually want?”, “What is the source of my inspiration?”, and “How can I use this inspiration to benefit my work?”. We will explain to you the principles of GICI: Goal, Insight, Courage, and Investment.
When you are inspired, you will more easily meet those people that can help you to achieve your dream. By participating in the workshop, the participants will deepen their empathy for and insight towards others. We will also show that proper networking is intimately linked to inspiration and passion!
The workshop ‘Inspiration and Networking’ is especially recommended to:
- organisations dealing with reorganisation
- as a teambuilding method
- for an internal boost
- to (re)discover your own talents
- to learn to network effectively
- 100% YES I’M energy!
Duration of workshop: 1,5 to 2 hours
Lecture “Diversity & Leadership”
This lecture presents the advantages of bringing into play different cultures in corporate life. Why do we speak of biculturality? What does the concept truly entail? Participants will be challenged to think critically about there internal policy.
Corporate life can benefit more from the richness of cultures that the Netherlands has to offer. Corporations that want to become more ‘diverse’, usually demand for a new kind of leadership. The core to achieve this is to recognize the differences and to turn them into assets. But how far can you go? What are the dilemmas? YES I’M clarifies during this lecture the many aspects of the multicultural society and its positive influence in practice.
The lecture provides answers to the following questions:
- Why does diversity lead to creativity?
- How can I turn differences into positive assets?
- What does it mean to recognize differences when speaking of cultural diversity?
Duration of lecture: 1,5 to 2 hours
I am very anxious to discover the challenges of people: What do they want to achieve? What obstacles do they encounter? I gladly provide my experience and expertise to people and organisations that are in need of support or advise regarding the field of biculturality, diversity, inspiration and integration. Together with you, I want to make the impossible possible.
